Getting here

The journey is part of the stay

Davaar is joined to the mainland by the Dhorlin, a natural shingle causeway that only appears at low tide.

How the tides work

Twice a day the sea gives way

Around low tide the Dhorlin rises out of the water, linking Davaar to the mainland. For a few hours either side of low tide it's safe to cross. As the tide comes back in, the causeway disappears and the island is on its own again.

Tide times shift by roughly an hour each day, so we plan every arrival and departure for you.

Good to know

Questions guests ask

Can I walk across myself?

Yes, at low tide the Dhorlin is walkable, but always check the times with us first — the tide comes in quickly and the shingle is uneven.

What if my travel is delayed?

Let us know as early as you can and we'll rearrange your crossing around the next safe window.

Can I leave the island during my stay?

Of course. Cross to Campbeltown and the Kintyre coast whenever the tide is out — just plan your return before it turns.

Is it ever completely cut off?

Twice a day, for several hours, when the tide covers the causeway. Most guests say it's their favourite part.
