Neighbours with fins and feathers

Otters, seals, dolphins and porpoises are regular visitors to the shoreline. Look up for golden eagles and peregrine falcons, and out to sea for the occasional minke whale. Our Highland cattle and wild goats keep the hillsides grazed.

The lighthouse

At the very edge of things

Davaar lighthouse was built in 1854 by David and Thomas Stevenson and automated in 1983. The keepers' cottages and lookout around it are now where our guests stay.

Nights you'll remember

Dark skies

Nights you'll remember

With no streetlights and the sea all around, Davaar's skies are properly dark — watch moonrise over Kilbrannan Sound, and on clear nights the Milky Way.

The sea caves

Seven caves line the south coast — one holds a famous painting of the crucifixion, discovered in 1887.

The trig point

Climb to the island's summit for views to Arran, Ailsa Craig and, on clear days, Northern Ireland.

The shoreline

Miles of empty coast to wander, with rock pools, driftwood and nobody else in sight.
